AVAKIAN HONORED FOR MARKETPLACE ETHICS
Lucille Avakian Oriental Rugs, a family owned retailer of fine rugs, has been honored by the Better Business Bureau of Delaware with a 2010 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics. Just four member companies each year receive the highly selective award, which recognizes businesses that operate at the highest levels of trust, performance and integrity.
The BBB of Delaware feels that this is a very special award and we truly feel that we are honoring companies who operate with the highest degree of integrity,” said Christine R. Sauers, president of BBB of Delaware. “This is a well-deserved accomplishment that Lucille Avakian Oriental Rugs should be proud of.”
Lucille Avakian Oriental Rugs provides a personalized, no-obligation, shop-at-home service for handmade oriental rugs. Owner-operator Lucille Avakian Karnik herself, a Fine Arts graduate of Hunter College, meets with clients to determine their needs and desires and then returns to show them a selection of oriental rugs gathered from her network of wholesale suppliers in the New York City area.
A family-owned business, Avakian Oriental Rugs has a long history in Delaware. The company was started in 1977 by Lucille’s mother, Barbara Avakian, and changed hands to Lucille in 2000 upon Barbara’s passing. Lucille’s great uncles in New York city ran the wholesale oriental rug firm of Avakian Brothers, Inc. which began importing oriental rugs in the early 1920’s.
