Capel Reports Strong Response To High Point Introductions

Capel Rugs enjoyed a busy High Point Market this month as retailers responded enthusiastically to a variety of high-value, on-trend rug introductions. Leading the way were several new machine-made additions to the licensed Kevin O’Brien line. They included Fiore, a new Wilton-woven, machine-made traditional design with a paisley motif in three colorways — flagstone, marcasite and Adriatic blue; and Willow, a nature-inspired design in azul and champagne colorways with a one-half inch pile. A mix of 50% polyester and 50% olefin, Fiore may retail for $449 for a 5’3” x 7’6” model; Willow, in olefin, may retail for $599 for that same size. “Retailers were really excited about our Kevin O’Brien designs,” said Cameron Capel, president – sales and marketing for Capel Rugs. “They loved the subtle, soft texture of Fiore, as well as the intricate construction and color. Willow also was a big hit, with retailers responding to its made-in-the-USA Wilton construction and very fashionable design.” Capel Rugs displayed a total of four new Kevin O’Brien designs in a special vignette in the front of its showroom during market, along with a variety of other textiles created by the Kevin O’Brien Studio, such as decorative pillows, bedding and throws. Capel Rugs’ other two new Kevin O’Brien rug models were Gilded Age and Brushstrokes. “Customers loved the new Finesse-Lattice designs, especially the lovely fleur-de-lis motif that appears in a few select spots on each rug,” Capel said. “It’s kind of hidden, which makes it an unexpected surprise.” Capel Rugs also added a new easy-care rug with Sunbrella border that uses an exclusive Biltmore® by Castelle fabric. At market, Capel Rugs’ flagship line of Capel-branded products also was expanded with a number of fresh imported designs. Introductions include two new transitional patterns added to the Metropolis collection — Carthage and Sojourn. Machine made in Moldova on Wilton looms, Metropolis features 100% New Zealand wool in three colorways. Carthage is available in smoky blue, and Sojourn offers the option of moonstruck or portico beige. A 5’3” x 7’6” rug may retail for...

Capel To Introduce New O’Brien Designs At High Point

Capel Rugs is debuting three dynamic new designs from its popular Kevin O’Brien line of licensed rugs at the October 13-17 High Point Market. The collection will be on view at Capel Rugs’ showroom, located at historic Market Square, Space 112. Two of the collections take inspiration from places that have a special place in O’Brien’s heart. Gilded Age is based on sketches O’Brien did of damask fabrics seen in a historic church interior in Paris, the city where he proposed to his wife. Willow is based on drawings O’Brien did during the couple’s honeymoon in Kyoto, Japan. “My sketchbooks contain a wide assortment of memories, inspirations and ideas recorded during my travels in Asia, Europe and other places throughout the world,” O’Brien said. “They’re often a creative starting point for our team as we develop new products. “This market, we’re revving up our Capel program with a range of exciting new rugs. Each of these new looks is deeply rooted in tradition and history, but with a fresh twist that makes them relatable to today’s lifestyles. The unifying theme is tradition with a modern spirit and relevance.” GILDED AGE A transitional rug design of 100% New Zealand wool constructed in Moldova on Wilton looms with a lush pile. Interpreted with a painterly hand that provides a fresh perspective on the brocade motif, Gilded Age is available in three colorways: nickel, azul and ivory mist (pictured). A 5’3″ x 7’6″ model retails for $599. “Did kings and queens walk on this rug?” O’Brien mused. “No, they never had it so good. But Capel’s customers are more fortunate and can feel like modern royalty when they step on this stylish, versatile design.” WILLOW This nature-themed collection traces its roots to a walk O’Brien took in a Japanese garden with his wife during their honeymoon. “We felt the gentle breezes sway a cluster of willow branches, and that feeling was magical,” O’Brien recalls. “Luckily, I had my brushes and paper nearby and could capture that special moment in my sketchbook.” BRUSHSTROKES Capel Rugs’ third introduction for the O’Brien line this market also began with a joyful splash of color in the artist’s sketchbook. A casual/transitional design sourced from Turkey, Brushstrokes features a machine-woven construction in durable polyester and olefin with a 1/2-inch pile. The rug is available in three colorways: Prussian Blue, Marble and Charcoal (pictured). “We’re very excited about these eye-catching designs Kevin has created,” said Cameron Capel, president of sales and marketing for Capel Rugs. “These latest introductions add a fresh dimension to our Kevin O’Brien program, which runs the gamut from bold, sophisticated contemporary designs to more classic patterns that...
